Caye Caulker, Belize

Days 54 – 55

We spent just two nights in Belize due mainly to the high costs of being there.  We opted for a break on Caye Caulker, an island about 45 minutes from the mainland.  Here we found a much more laid back, Caribbean-style vibe awaiting us.  By night we drank at many of the picturesque bars hugging the coastline of this tiny island.  During our one full day we took a guided snorkeling tour out among the coral reefs and marine reserves nearby.  Here we saw some incredible marine life including, dolphins, nurse sharks, a turtle, stingrays, eels, an octopus and of course an abundance of fish.  Despite getting caught in a huge storm on our way out nothing could dampen our spirits that day, and on the return sailing we were given free rum punch resulting in everyone on the tour arranging to meet up again later that evening at the sports bar for more drinks.
