A fairly excruciating 18 hour bus in order to get back on track after our extended stay in Puebla complete with a corrupt official demanding money from us. This disgusting individual couldn’t knock our spirits for long though as we spent a very hot and humid couple of days exploring Merida. To cool off we went out into the nearby rainforest on a guided tour of three cenotes (sinkholes filled with water). The transport to and from these were an event in themselves (a public bus, taxi bike and then a horse pulling a truck on rails) and the cenotes did the trick in keeping us cool (as did the huge thunderstorm that accompanied them). When not on an excursion we could usually be found drinking and eating at McCarthy’s Irish Pub, our home from home for two nights in a row.
