Our last major trip saw us travel across the United States from coast to coast, and avoiding highways in the process. A huge part of that journey involved checking out and exploring many of the incredible National Parks along the way. As always with long journeys we look for ways to keep costs to a minimum and were delighted to discover we could purchase a year-long US National Park Pass for $80. This pass entitled us to access all National Parks for free as many times as we liked. Without this pass, we would have had to pay $35 every single time we wanted to enter a park. In total we visited 11 differenet National Parks, entering them a combined 17 times. Without the pass, our total cost would have been a staggering $595. Our trip is now complete, and our Park Pass sits idle, with 9 months validity still intact. We would like for someone else to have the chance to get out there and explore the beauty of these parks themselves and so set ourselves the challenge of finding the next rightful owner of our Pass. Time is of course, of the essence as the Pass will expire in September 2022.

Furthermore, as we step back from travel for a few months we thought why not focus on a new challenge and so came up with ‘From Roam to Home’. Our aim is to try and trade up as far as possible, beginning with the humble National Park Pass and seeing how far it will take us. Our ultimate goal would be to trade up to a home, a base we can use when not out in the world exploring.

On top of this, we wanted to include another family in this challenge. We’ve been lucky to both come from backgrounds with consistently reliable living environments, and this upbringing has additionally provided us with the opportunities and springboard to travel. We’ve also been lucky and blessed with creating strong bonds and friendships with others around the world and see this as an opportunity to share. Our goal here is to trade up from a National Park Pass to a house, and if we can achieve this to also provide the same for one of our friends and we’d like to introduce them here;

Meet Juliet, Moses & Family

Juliet and Moses and their two young children have become close friends over the past year who we now consider to be like family. Coming from Uganda, geographically we are worlds apart, and yet ultimately the same, with similar desires to see their kids lead a happy and healthy life. Covid-19 has affected all of us in the world, but perhaps hit them harder as work is scarce and medical treatment is not what we take for granted here in the West. We’d love to be able to give them the springboard to embark on their own chapter in life and follow their dreams.
