The Death Road and Salt Flats

Days 148 - 154

Once in La Paz, Bolivia it was time to begin our second Dragoman tour. This one would transport us safely all the way to Buenos Aires. Our initiation to the new group involved a buffet dinner and free wine. This was a great way to meet new people but also a terrible way to prepare to cycle the death road early the next morning. And so it was with incredible hangovers that we set off to attack the 40 mile ride of one of the most dangerous roads in the world. As it turned out it was more than worth getting out of bed for. Sure the first couple of hours were freezing cold as we climbed up into the mountains and neither of us could fully escape the prospect in our minds of potentially throwing up whilst riding a bike, but as the day pushed on our hangovers became a distant memory as we were treated to one of the most exhilarating experiences we’d ever had.

Bolivia was a hotspot for great experiences as a couple of days later we took a trip out to Uyuni and a day on the salt flats where we took great delight in coming up with an array of interesting photos due to the lack of depth perception out on the flats.
